From fathers to step-fathers, foster fathers, guardians and father-like figures, YMCA WA recognised all males in our children’s lives through family friendly Father’s Day activities at our services.
YMCA East Cannington Early Learning Centre held a BBQ sausage sizzle morning for dads to enjoy with the children, which Centre Director Mel Flett described as a great way for them to connect with the centre.
“With fathers more commonly being at work and the mothers being in charge of drop off, the event gave dads more of an idea of how much fun their children have at our centre,” Mel said.
“It was great for our educators to be able to show our children’s fathers what activities we get up to at the centre and what their children are learning.”
YMCA WA General Manager of Metro Brooke Draper echoed the importance that the occasion held not only to East Cannington ELC, but YMCA WA’s entire service delivery.
“Father’s Day is a really special day for us and is one we believe should be acknowledged for the integral role father-figures play in shaping young children’s lives,” Brooke said.
“We believe commemorating the occasion at East Cannington, Ashdale and at our other services is really valuable for the children, to teach them about giving back and showing appreciation.”
Across town at YMCA Ashdale Early Learning Centre, the staff and toddlers made a gift for their loving fathers, which was ready to take home in time for the occasion.
The children painted on canvases with blue, white and yellow paint, with ‘dad’ stencilled in the centre.
The fathers were all excited to have such a precious piece of art as a gift, made with love and affection by their children.
